Born in Israel, Shirit Lee Weiss is one of Israel’s leading opera directors and has achieved stage recognition in the fields of opera, musical theater and
contemporary music.
At The Israeli Opera Weiss directed Blue Beard’s Castle (Bartók) , Opera and Fairy tales and the community productions La Cenerentola (Rossini) and The Magic Flute (Mozart). With The Young Artists Program of the Israeli Opera, the Meitar Studio, Weiss directed Die Fledermaus (Strauss), Don Pasquale (Donizetti), Werther (Massenet), The Telephone and The Medium (Menotti) , Don Giovanni (Mozart) and Cosi Fun Tutte (Mozart). Weiss also acts as a revival director at The Israeli Opera.
Weiss directed the winning musical Greta and the race to space (Yonathan Cnaan and Valeria Zalikovski) in the last Original Israeli Musical Festival . last summer she directed the Abduction from the serial (Mozart) in the Summer opera workshop (IVAI)
Weiss directed Pierrot Lunaire (Schoenberg) as part of the Jerusalem International Chamber Music Festival. At the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music, Tel-Aviv University, she directed the Operetta The Merry Widow (Lehár) and at The Academy of Music and Dance in Jerusalem La Finta Giardiniera (Mozart). In the Fringe Opera in Tel-aviv she directed a production of Ba-ta-clan (offenbach).
As part of her collaborations with the major orchestras of Israel, Weiss recently directed The Barber of Seville (Rossini) and Die Fledermaus (Strauss) for the The Israel Sinfonietta Beer Sheva , The Magic Flute (Mozart), Trouble in Tahiti (Bernstein) and The Telephone (Menotti) for Haifa Symphony Orchestra.
In the USA, Weiss directed number of productions including Don Pasquale at Garden State Opera in New Jersey and Kurt Weill’s Down in the Valley, Bohuslav Martinu’s Comedy on the Bridge and Jacques Offenbach’s Ba-Ta-Clan at the Opera Theater of Brooklyn College, New York.
Recently, Weiss was invited as a Director and Acting Coach to the European Network of Opera Academies program (ENOA) at Latvia's National Opera.
Weiss is a graduate of The Buchmann-Mehta School of Music, Tel-Aviv University and holds a Master degree from Brooklyn College, New York.
